Context
Shyft advised the Litter Prevention Unit (LPU) in New South Wales to develop an integrated program plan to meet 2030 reduction targets for overall litter and plastics.
The goal was to summarise the new program targets, validate targets bottom-up with the team, and design data models to facilitate future forecasting, performance tracking, and dashboard design.
To ensure the program meets reduction targets over the next 9 years, it was essential to establish key milestones and KPIs for each initiative workstream.
Approach
Shyft has taken a “bottom-up, co-designed approach” to develop an integrated program plan and a process for future monitoring:
- Assess top-down targets and outline program plan, including testing top-down assumptions and designing initiative charter templates.
- Collaborate with initiative leads to co-design each workstream program, draft success metrics, and define reduction contribution.
- Share and align initiative charters to establish a program-wide plan through facilitating a team workshop. Following alignment, define ongoing monitoring approach, including forecasting models and dashboard designs.
Outcome
As a result, Shyft was able to provide the LPU with:
- Initiative charters by workstream, providing a deep dive into reduction target contributions, interim outcomes, and KPIs.
- An aligned and integrated program plan, with clear understanding and support for the team roadmap over the next 9 years.
- A bottom-up target model with a) current target breakdowns and b) the ability to display forecast data based on input.
- An initiative tracking model for ongoing program monitoring, including views for program-level performance and by initiative.
